Plonker! take it from me, it gets no better as they get older - they're just more expensive....and argumentative - and the kids are no better!
I think if you read some of the previous postings you'll get the gist of it Ian. |

Despite the fact there was a breakdown in communication and we ended up with a computer but no transponders - last night was one of the most enjoyable evenings racing I've had for a while. Okay, I didn't finish every race, but those I did I really enjoyed, you know how things all just flow....? Even the marshalling was better than normal - everyone seemed to get it right. Even the break in the middle allowed us to get a bite to eat and a cuppa (and time to replace my steeering knuckles)
The fact that we had a mixed race of buggies and truggies (not many driving truggies, we seem to becoming a serious Hobao H7 club) - certain people (truggy driver - names rhymes with prat just drove OVER the opposition - (and then said it was an accident..twice?)..they'll get their's in due course!
More new faces, and some 'old' ones thay have moved up from electric racing - first nighters at Laughton and they get 5 rounds of racing - what a bargain!
It's getting to the stage where Tuesday nights are great fun again, the move to Laughton allowing us regular racing in the warm (relatively) and dry, well lit arena.
Had a really daft idea - is there anyone out there that could design and build a banked section or two? that would enhance the track and maybe some timber humps rather than jumps.... |

Must agree, it was a really good evenings racing.
I think the old fashioned start, lap counting and board made it more interesting than normal.
Getting to the stage where All my cars are setup nicely and run consistantly......
Humps and banking should be fairly easy to make, he says unknowingly.
My only niggle with the place is the guttering, hitting the ends doesn't do your car any good at all. I know you shouldn't but it does happen when you are trying hard. Is there any alternatives? |

In an ideal world the alternative would be a continuous loop of guttering overlapped and taped (and pinned) down. But we've not got enough to go round - plus there's two different cross sections. An alternative would be to manufacture some kind of end cap - Cutting at an angle was suggested but that leaves a sharp pair of points, so that's a no.... So that leaves missing them all to gether. |

Last night was the best evenings racing I've been to yet!!
The manual system meant that I could actually hear what was going on and knew when the race was due to start and actually started. I struggle to hear the tannoy system clearly in the centre.
The 5 minute transitions made the evening flow far better and gave a great break between heats 3 and 4. Doing things manually also meant their was time for a 5th round of racing!?!?!?
Thanks to all for a really great evenings racing. |

The manual / standing start is what I'm used to as well - unfortunately, we 'old-timers' will have to get used to the rolling start system - it's been explained to me but I don't really grasp the concept.....but that's what every other club races, at either club or national level - it's what the timing system supports as well.
We do appreciate the problems with the p.a. system at Laughton, we have also been given permission to modify it to suit us, but as with many things - they're using the arena during the day and we all work, there's also the availability of the equipment - not so much speakers and wires, more access to the roof height. It will be sorted, it's just a case of when.
When we use the computer system next time we can set the system to run 5 minute heats and 5 minutes between and have a break as we did this week. As long as more people are willing to help set up and put away we can get more rounds of racing in.
So Carl, have we unknowingly volunteered? you make it - I'll collect it ! |

Can't see a problem for us.....but the pro's and cons would be
pro's: the track would seem big and wide your buggy would be more nimble you'd not stall on the line
con's: the surface would be rougher for you if you get hit by a 1/8th buggy it might break something on your 1/10th
Alternatively, bring enough mates with 1/10th's and have heats of your own - we have a few here with old ones - I brought my Bosscat out of retirement after 9 years to have a go and the cells were, shall we say 'past their best'.
Come down and have a crack..... |

Hi Yokomo Dave, I'll bring my 1/10 electric 4WD buggy down and I'll have a bash with you in between heats, but I run my 1/8th Nitro buggy in the races.

Top night again............ CHEERS to all!!
Can't remember the names of the father/son combo, but bloody hell that electric Buggy of theirs didn't half go some That would spank a fair few of the Nitro Buggys with that lad driving it.
We just need Smogthemog to finish building his 'Super Truggy' and then showcase it to us all. |

Must agree, another fun night.
At last the skills are improving and I'm getting a bit faster and more consistant.... Could still do with a few tips on setting the car up. The front end understeers more than I would like and it is difficult to turn tightly. |
