In the last 2 years a1racingclub has moved very quickly as a recognised club and track.

We have recognised that we need to move fast and at different level to move the club forward, so we have decided to set up a committee.

We would appreciate anybody that thinks they could help especially in directing and organising the club to the next level.
If you feel that you could support the club in anyway and would like to get on board then we will be holding the initial meeting on TUESDAY 4TH NOVEMBER at the equistrian centre folkingham. 6.30pm

We will still be racing for those that still wish to do so.

If you can not make it then you can ring me on 07800862367 email me bdchlls@hotmail.com, so we can discuss or meet up at another time.

We need you to move the club to bigger better things so if you are interested to help with running the club then please be there or contact myself Ben Challis

Thankyou

The meeting destined for Tuesday evening was postponed, the decision to re-schedule at a future date taken as notice was deemed too short.

I have been asked to post on this thread to ask for suggestions / criticism / help to back up Ben's plea above for the sake of A1Racing.

Rather than create any animosity or ill-feeling amongst the regular attendees, ALL communications should be posted on this forum as we are trying to promote openess and fair play whilst we get this club to hit the ground running.

It's been suggested that A1Racing become a 'proper' club - this being the best way that we can get sufficient people involved and spread the work load and responsibilities so we are not dependent on one person for one particular task.
If anyone has suggestions for anything apertaining to the success of the club, please speak (type) up.

We need to organise a committee, we need to lay down some basic rules, then we need help with fund raising, advertising, track maintainence (project management) - loads of volunteers (labour). Also in the frame are volunteers that can help run the weekly meets -including using the computer to do booking in / run the race control etc..

There are also other issues that need more urgent resolution, like insurance and membership for members and also a few safety issues during meetings.

ANYBODY that can help ( or has sensible suggestions), PLEASE make your presence known - If you enjoy the facilities and the racing at A1, then you must want it to continue, this can happen if we all 'muck' in. Improvements can only be made if we have support.

As in the second posting, those currently in the un-enviable position of responsibility, myself included, are not able to dedicate enough time ( or have the knowledge ) to do the job of running a club as it needs doing. So basically it's a plea for help.

If anyone can help share any of the load for the benefit of all - then shout up.
Ideally each position could be shared by two people, some by three - that way there'd always be someone available and the workload is effectively halved or better. Commitee positions excepted, bit weird having two chairmen, or is it?

As in Tuesday's case, Chris was unavailable due to the recent arrival of his new son, Ben got dragged into work unexpectedly, and I know diddly squat about using the timing gear.
Fortunately for us, Lewis from Access has past experience of running race meets and did a sterling job of running the night.

Carl, running a club is much the same irrespective of what it does, it's like a mini-business, if, on this forum we start off by simply 'brain-storming' we can find out what each member would expect from A1Racing.

For example: my personal expectations are simply to have a place to enjoy racing my buggy with like minded people, all year round - indoors when its cold and dark, outdoors when it's dry, light and preferably warm. I don't aspire to be a national champion, average club level is my limit (and it's a struggle to maintain that!) I turn up for the fun and camaraderie - the banter and heckling are good too. I'd have a crack at a higher level race series, but can't take it seriously to be uber-competitive. (I work weekends on a rota and last year was not good as 'she who must be obeyed' had us down for about 4 holidays - not bragging, but they fell on most of the scheduled weekends of the emnorc!)

I prefer to have a variety of surfaces with a decent straight, a few technical bits and jumps etc. Track access for practice and set-up should be available at reasonable times, and club meets once a week. Cost is obviously a serious criteria, not everyone has the disposable income to enjoy what we all know can be an expensive hobby.

As mentioned on my earlier thread - I expect all racers to share the work load, be it setting up, clearing away, marshalling (no excuses on this point - except maybe age or disability ) - there are far too many people in any club that think that paying their subs is the limit of their responsibility, just remember, no-one gets paid, we're all volunteers and have to get home just like you do.

I expect everyone to help anyone else who might have a problem - we're only competitors on the track. And as they say, 'what comes around , goes around'. I also expect any club member to promote the club's primary sport to young and old alike - and welcome and encourage new racers, visitors, or spectators.

We should have a STRICT safety code - especially for the benfit of anyone marshalling - we've all been burnt, tyre marked and had muck spun into our faces - and even had our ankles cracked (P.J.'d?)

A lot of things are common sense, I'll get off my box now....comments / criticism as you wish.

Unfortunately do to moving jobs and family commitments I am unable to get to the evening meets now so would find it hard to help out at the meets but am willing to take on any admin duties that require doing i.e advertising paper work, organizing or arranging what ever needs arranging.

Was intending to state our position regarding club involvement at meeting, but have decided to put it on here to help get things moving.
As the elder half of the Brushless Power team I was initially the chauffeur for Philip, who decided to move to nitro from electric. I have since got more involved & thoroughly enjoy the racing nights & the great crowd of people that attend.
Having said that I don’t race myself (yet) & Phils a bit young, so at this stage we wish to continue to help the club on a volunteering level.
As at present we are more than happy to continue to help with Marshalling + setting up & packing away the track, and also to continue to help with track rebuilding/maintenance at Gonerby Moor.
Agree with Grasshopper that it would help if more people could assist with the setting up & packing up of the track, I appreciate that some people have a long way to travel & arrive later, but by the time we have finished setting up track there is usually quite a few people about. A few more helped packing up this week & it made so much of a difference to how long it took, many thanks.
I don,t mean to “pass the buck” but I think the club should be run by people that race/have raced as they would be better “qualified”, also at the moment I am having enough trouble trying to run my own company with business as it is the moment ( hence my “scabby” work truck that we turn up in every week!)
P.S. On a lighter note since the introduction of high-viz jackets, Phils “ankle smashing” aim has much improved!!!

Hi.
The posts above pretty much sum it up for me.
Ref a safety code. I think this is a must, especially at the indoor meets, as the relatively small space makes marshalling quite a interesting five minutes! The Hi-viz vests have definately helped though.
On the Gonerby Moor front. I would like to volunteer my help in re-building the track, or even creating a new layout when the time comes, and general maintenence with the track.

Anyway, again on a lighter note (this should go in the safety code) I bought a freind along last time I was there, and he said we seem to crash alot and we could do with a "Safety Buggy". Interesting......
